What Are The Connotations, Ideologies and Target Audience of "The Isle of White" Festival?

What Are The Connotations, Ideologies
and Target Audience of "The Isle of White" Festival?

http://www.isleofwightfestival.com/

The island of white separates audiences from the rest of the collective, and in relation to the website, the feel and look comes across as very natural and relaxed. This festival is for those who wish to be apart from the vast collective who want to enjoy themselves. The design is in the shape of a magazine, as if it's wanting to come across as a mainstream product, which the vast majority of audiences will buy and read. The style is represented as some kind of notebook, as if you'll keep checking back for updates or to write anything on their social networking sites.

The annotations of "Bar and Entertainment" suggest that this festival is rather niche and is targeted for older audiences between the ages of 30-45. This  is because many older bands and artists such as "The Strokes" appear on stage. The older bands appeal to this kind of audience since they where the "highlight" for their generation.

The font of "The Isle of White" is similar to styles used in the 80's. This again targets an older audience as it's suggesting that if you go to this festival, you'll feel that your back in the 80's having fun and enjoying yourself like you did when you where younger. The grassland background suggests this festival is based on a campsite feel and is set outside in the fresh-air, almost as if this festival is targeted for hippies and eco-friendly audiences.

GANGNAM STYLE - The Importance of the Music Video

- GANGNAM STYLE -
The Importance of the Music Video

I find it is somewhat relevant to the subject of creating a good music video, this is why I am creating this post, which could be improved somehow, but I do not know how at the moment. *Not trying to be funny or silly*.

I watched a video report from the BBC's website about why the song "Gangnam Style" has become so popular in the UK. Here is the link to the article:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19681887

The reporter mentions:

"Well, I think he's realized that the real path to success in our society these days is making a video that gets attention. His music is very lyrically forgettable and hes singing in Korean so, the majority of people who have seen his video don't really have err, a clue what he's talking about, but he's made a very, very memorable video in which he does all kinds of ridiculous things and he's got a dance which anyone can learn should they want to, so he's clearly a child of his times".

I find this is important since by creating an unique, rather "ridiculous" music video, the video itself becomes far more memorable by the target audience and other audience demographics than a music video which is not as funny, interesting, or unique as this. With currently "302,455,586" views, and "3,003,832 likes" - this clearly shows. (28th/Sep/2012 at 18:50). With every refresh of the page, the "likes" dramatically increase.

The use of characteristics, dance techniques, use of camera and what events occur within the mise-en-scene are by far the most remembered features of the music video, and actual song. This is what makes the actual song to be interesting and memorable by the audience. They can associate the song with the music video - neither part can not be without the other.

I'm not suggesting that my group's music video will be as funny, abstract or even as "ridiculous", but I find that the importance of our music video to be remembered is by our ideal target audience to make a successful music video in terms of, if it would be retailed in the future.

And remember:

Possible Locations for Music Video

Possible Locations for Music Video

On the 19th of September 2012, Myself and my friend (Hayden) went into the city (Norwich) to originally take pictures for my photography course, and also his Media Studies (City Collage).

However, we happened to go past a few possible locations which Myself and Sam have discussed in class so I kindly asked if we could divert and walk towards them along our walk, so that I was able to take photographs using my Cannon 600D to use on mine, and also Sam's A.2 Media Studies blog.

The photographs I took can be viewed in the slideshow below.

Filming 001: Date 24th/Sep/2012 (Confirmed - Ready to Shoot)

Filming 001: Date 24th/Sep/2012
(Confirmed - Ready to Shoot)

Myself and Sam have successfully booked the City of Norwich (CNS) school "HUB" for the 24th of September 2012 (Monday) during period one and two (9am-11am) - one of our locations to film Brian.

The shot which we'll be filming at this location on Monday is composed of mainly a close up of Brian's face, while he is singing his song "Information" at an eye line height/level to the camera's lens.

We shall be using my Cannon 600D photography camera which films in 1080FPS (frames per second) to record and capture Brian against a black background. This will be used as an intertextual reference to Sinéad O'Connor's 1989 song "Nothing Compares 2 U" since we find that the continuous close up shot is very iconic and memorable due to the use of facial expressions which emphasize the emotion from the lyrics and hope to achieve something similar for our own music video.

Along with this, Sam will bring his camera. He will be taking different tilted and various close ups from different angles while filming the shot to add more diversification

Sam has emailed Brian and asked if this date is ok with him, and Brian has responded positively and will meet us outside the gate at 8:45am.

Why Has There Been An Increase In The Amount Of Music Festivals In The UK?

Why Has There Been An Increase
In The Amount Of Music Festivals In The UK?

The increase in proliferation of music festivals in the UK is due to the use of technology - being able to access digital downloads illegally. Becuase of this, revenue streams of niche and mainstream artists and bands are decreasing and can affect their market segmentation. The consumer's expression through legal downloads instead of buying them are affecting the artist and bands, who now need to diversify into music festivals to maintain their revenue.

Music festivals have become far more corporate. The diversification of different events taking place at once offers different lifestyle cultures to a luxury experience and identity - as if it matters to be around certain people. This diversification of events also offer a connectivity of those who express their consumerism in buying tickets to support their favorite artist, or band.

Meeting Brian Korteling - Our Artist

Meeting Brian Korteling - Our Artist

On the last day of the holidays (5th/Sep/2012) Myself and Sam went to meet Brian Korteling, the artist of our chosen song "Information" in Waterstones cafe on  Back of the Inns road.

We talked and discussed our ideas over a cup of orange juice each. He mentioned that he was very honored that we chose his song to use for A2 media studies.

Brian also suggested an idea of his own, this idea is where he is playing his guitar against a black wall, or even in a black colored room and objects, such as boxes slowly move into the mise-en-scene around him.

Myself and Sam liked his idea, the camera would of course also change between a verity of close ups, zooms, and tilt shots too. Myself and Sam then discussed that this idea is possible, and we may explore similar ideas in the future.

I wonder if you've noticed Sam's
"amazing" Photoshop skills yet?
